Migraine is
chronic neurological disorder.
It is characterized by severe headache that usually manifests itself in a
throbbing or pulsating, with regular occurrence. They can
last between 4
and 72 hours and in this period, nausea, vomiting and intolerance
to light, smells and noise occurs in most cases. Such
symptoms
result from the release of noradrenaline and dopamine in the body.
Only one side of the head can be affected and disturbances in vision (light,
dark spots, geometric or loss of a part of the visual field) or numbness may
be present. The latter two cases characterize
migraine aura.
Approximately 20% of women, 10% of men and 5% of children are affected by
this type of headache. It is more common in white people.
The
causes Related
to this include genetic,
environmental, hormonal and dietary habits and life style. Recent surveys show
that the diet is the main cause, and fasting and drinking alcohol,
chocolate, red wine and coffee the most common. Sleep problems, followed by
stress are the other two main causes. Allergy, pollution, sunlight, weather
changes, cigarette, air conditioning, odor of perfume,
products cleaning and gasoline are part of the list of environmental
factors. Remember that 65% of women experience migraine headaches more
intense and for longer duration during the menstrual period and
this is the most common cause of seizures.
In many patients,
certain symptoms arise hours or minutes
occur before the migraine itself. They are: lack of
appetite or desire for certain foods, like sweets, hyperactivity,
irritability, yawning, changes in memory and thinking, drowsiness, diarrhea,
abdominal discomfort or aura.
For
treatment the use of allopathic, herbal medicines,
acupuncture and electrodes are some ways to control the symptoms of the
crisis, coupled with changes in the habit of
life style of the person and changes in diet, may even cure the disease.

Twenty-two trials with 4419 participants (mean 201, median 42, range 27
to 1715) met the inclusion criteria. Six trials (including two large
trials with 401 and 1715 patients) compared acupuncture to no
prophylactic treatment or routine care only. After 3 to 4 months
patients receiving acupuncture had higher response rates and fewer
