Infertility Other causes for
infertility in women
Other Causes for
Infertility (Idiopathic)
Problems neck (cervical) are a relatively rare
cause of infertility. They may include:
- Inadequate
cervical mucus:
can be determined by stimulating
estrogen deficient or endocervical cells barely functioning. One of
the treatment options for cervical mucus is inadequate therapy with
gonadotropins.
-
Mucus hostility:
in which normal sperm fail to
penetrate the cervical mucus. Mucus hostility may develop following
intra vaginal infections or due to the presence of anti-sperm
antibodies in the mucus (which are also usually due to treatment).
It is also possible that the male to develop antibodies against
their own sperm. Treatment of both partners with antibiotic /
antifungal agents can eliminate the problem. When that fails, these
patients can be treated by intrauterine insemination (intrauterine
insemination, IUI), in which sperm are
introduced directly into the uterus, thus bypassing the abnormal
cervix. (See Section Treatment of
site).
Unexplained infertility is defined as
failure to conceive after one year, in the presence of normal cycle,
semen normal, normal laparoscopic findings and further action the sperm
penetrate the mucus normally. In about 10-15% of couples, can not
determine a cause of infertility even after a thorough investigation of
both partners.
The results of empirical hormonal treatment have been encouraging in
some female patients, despite their infertility was not diagnosed after
a thorough investigation.
In women, unlike men, fertility declines with age from 35 years of age.
Clinical subfertility, defined as a delay in conception than 12 months,
is so closely associated with advancing age.
Other factors related to lifestyle such as diet, exercise, alcohol and
illegal drugs or prescription drugs can affect fertility, but its
importance is uncertain.
