Retrograde ejaculation

Infertility and retrograde Ejaculation

Retrograde ejaculation is a cause of infertility in which sperm are pumped back into the bladder instead of being ejaculated into the female tract. The condition is responsible for less than 1% of male infertility and, as the sperm are normal, they can be recovered from the urine for use in assisted reproduction techniques.

Once the sperm have been ejaculated in the female tract, its motility depends on its thrust forward. Patients with the rare syndrome (immotile cilia syndrome) are unable to produce motile sperm.
